Shloka 10.1: śhrī-bhagavān uvācha | bhūya eva mahā-bāho śhṛiṇu me paramaṁ vachah | yatte ’haṁ prīyamāṇāya vakṣhyāmi hitakāmyayā || 10.1 ||

English:  The Blessed Lord said: O mighty-armed Arjuna, listen again to My supreme words, which I shall now speak to you for your benefit, as you are very dear to Me.

Hindi:  भगवान ने कहा: हे महाबाहु अर्जुन, फिर से मेरे परम वचन सुनो, जो मैं तुम्हारे हित के लिए कहने जा रहा हूँ, क्योंकि तुम मुझे अत्यंत प्रिय हो।

 

Shloka 10.2: na me viduḥ sura-gaṇāḥ prabhavaṁ na maharṣhayaḥ | aham ādir hi devānāṁ maharṣhīṇāṁ cha sarvaśhaḥ || 10.2 ||

English:  Neither the gods nor the great sages know My origin, for I am the source of all the gods and the great sages in every respect.

Hindi:  मेरी उत्पत्ति को न तो देवता जानते हैं और न ही महान ऋषि। क्योंकि मैं ही सभी देवताओं और महर्षियों का हर प्रकार से मूल हूँ।

 

Shloka 10.3: yo mām ajam anādiṁ cha vetti loka-maheśhvaram | asaṁmūḍhaḥ sa martyeṣhu sarva-pāpaiḥ pramuchyate || 10.3 ||

English:  He who knows Me as unborn and without a beginning, and as the Supreme Lord of the universe, is undeluded among men and is freed from all sins.

Hindi:  जो मुझे अजन्मा और अनादि जानता है, और जगत का महेश्वर मानता है, वह मनुष्यों में अभ्रमित है और सभी पापों से मुक्त हो जाता है।

 

Shloka 10.4-10.5: buddhir jñānam asammohaḥ kṣhamā satyaṁ damaḥ śhamaḥ | sukhaṁ duḥkhaṁ bhavo ’bhāvo bhayaṁ chābhayam eva cha || 10.4 ||

ahiṁsā samatā tuṣhṭis tapo dānaṁ yaśho ’yaśhaḥ | bhavanti bhāvā bhūtānāṁ matta eva pṛithag-vidhāḥ || 10.5 ||

English:  Intelligence, knowledge, freedom from doubt, forgiveness, truthfulness, control of the senses, tranquility, happiness, sorrow, birth, death, fear, and fearlessness; non-violence, equanimity, contentment, austerity, charity, fame, and infamy—all these various qualities of living beings arise from Me alone.

Hindi:  बुद्धि, ज्ञान, निर्भ्रांति, क्षमा, सत्य, इंद्रियों का संयम, शांति, सुख, दुःख, जन्म, मृत्यु, भय, और निर्भयता; अहिंसा, समता, संतोष, तप, दान, यश, और अपयश—ये सभी विभिन्न गुण जीवों में मुझसे ही उत्पन्न होते हैं।

 

Shloka 10.6: maharṣhayaḥ sapta pūrve chatvāro manavas tathā | mad-bhāvā mānasā jātā yeṣhāṁ loka imāḥ prajāḥ || 10.6 ||

English:  The seven great sages, the four great saints before them, and the fourteen Manus are all born from My mind. From them, all the people in the world have descended.

Hindi:  सात महर्षि, उनसे पहले चार महान ऋषि, और चौदह मनु, ये सभी मेरे मन से उत्पन्न हुए हैं। इन्हीं से संसार की सभी प्रजा उत्पन्न हुई है।

 

Shloka 10.7: etāṁ vibhūtiṁ yogaṁ cha mama yo vetti tattvataḥ | so ’vikampena yogena yujyate nātra sanśhayaḥ || 10.7 ||

English:  He who truly understands My divine glories and mystic power is united with Me through unwavering yoga; of this, there is no doubt.

Hindi:  जो मेरी दैवी विभूतियों और योग शक्ति को तत्त्व से जानता है, वह मुझसे अचल योग द्वारा युक्त होता है, इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है।

 

Shloka 10.8: ahaṁ sarvasya prabhavo mattaḥ sarvaṁ pravartate | iti matvā bhajante māṁ budhā bhāva-samanvitāḥ || 10.8 ||

English:  I am the origin of all creation. Everything emanates from Me. The wise, who understand this, worship Me with all their hearts.

Hindi:  मैं सभी सृष्टि का मूल हूँ। सब कुछ मुझसे ही उत्पन्न होता है। जो बुद्धिमान इसे जानते हैं, वे मुझसे भाव से युक्त होकर मेरी भक्ति करते हैं।

 

Shloka 10.9: mach-chittā mad-gata-prāṇā bodhayantaḥ parasparam | kathayantaśh cha māṁ nityaṁ tuṣhyanti cha ramanti cha || 10.9 ||

English:  With their minds fixed on Me and their lives devoted to Me, they enlighten one another, speaking of Me constantly, and derive great satisfaction and bliss.

Hindi:  मुझमें चित्त लगाकर और अपने प्राण मुझमें समर्पित करके, वे एक-दूसरे को प्रबोधित करते हैं और मेरी चर्चा करते हुए सदा संतुष्टि और आनंद प्राप्त करते हैं।

 

Shloka 10.10: teṣhāṁ satata-yuktānāṁ bhajatāṁ prīti-pūrvakam | dadāmi buddhi-yogaṁ taṁ yena mām upayānti te || 10.10 ||

English:  To those who are constantly devoted to serving Me with love, I give the understanding by which they can come to Me.

Hindi:  जो लोग सदैव मुझसे जुड़े रहते हैं और प्रेमपूर्वक मेरी भक्ति करते हैं, उन्हें मैं वह बुद्धि योग प्रदान करता हूँ जिसके द्वारा वे मुझे प्राप्त कर सकते हैं।

 

Shloka 10.11: teṣhām evānukampārtham aham ajñāna-jaṁ tamaḥ | nāśhayāmyātma-bhāvastho jñāna-dīpena bhāsvatā || 10.11 ||

English:  Out of compassion for them, I, who am dwelling in their hearts, destroy the darkness of ignorance with the shining lamp of knowledge.

Hindi:  उन पर कृपा करते हुए, मैं उनके हृदय में स्थित होकर अज्ञान से उत्पन्न अंधकार को ज्ञान के प्रकाश से नष्ट कर देता हूँ।

 

Shloka 10.12-10.13: arjuna uvācha | paraṁ brahma paraṁ dhāma pavitraṁ paramaṁ bhavān | puruṣhaṁ śhāśhvataṁ divyam ādi-devam ajaṁ vibhum || 10.12 ||

āhus tvām ṛiṣhayaḥ sarve devarṣhir nāradas tathā | asito devalo vyāsaḥ svayaṁ chaiva bravīṣhi me || 10.13 ||

English:  Arjuna said: You are the Supreme Brahman, the Supreme Abode, the Supreme Purifier, the Eternal Divine Person, the Primeval God, the Unborn, and the Greatest. All the great sagesNarada, Asita, Devala, and Vyasa—have declared this of You, and now You Yourself are declaring it to me.

Hindi:  अर्जुन ने कहा: आप परम ब्रह्म, परम धाम, परम पवित्र हैं। आप शाश्वत दिव्य पुरुष, आदिदेव, अजन्मा, और विभु हैं। ऋषि नारद, असित, देवल, और व्यास—इन सभी महान ऋषियों ने आपके विषय में यही कहा है, और अब आप स्वयं मुझे बता रहे हैं।

 

Shloka 10.14: sarvam etad ṛitaṁ manye yan māṁ vadasi keśhava | na hi te bhagavan vyaktiṁ vidur devā na dānavāḥ || 10.14 ||

English:  O Keshava, I consider all that You tell me to be truth. Neither the gods nor the demons know Your true personality, O Lord.

Hindi:  हे केशव, जो कुछ भी आप मुझे बताते हैं, मैं उसे सत्य मानता हूँ। देवता और दानव दोनों ही आपकी वास्तविक सत्ता को नहीं जानते, हे भगवान।

 

Shloka 10.15: svayam evātmanātmānaṁ vettha tvaṁ puruṣhottama | bhūta-bhāvana bhūteśha deva-deva jagat-pate || 10.15 ||

English:  Only You can know Yourself by Your own self, O Supreme Person, Creator of all beings, Lord of all beings, God of gods, and Ruler of the universe!

Hindi:  केवल आप ही अपने स्वरूप को जान सकते हैं, हे पुरुषोत्तम, सभी प्राणियों के सृजक, सभी प्राणियों के स्वामी, देवताओं के देवता, और जगत के स्वामी!

 

Shloka 10.16: vaktum arhasy aśheṣheṇa divyā hy ātma-vibhūtayaḥ | yābhir vibhūtibhir lokān imāṁs tvaṁ vyāpya tiṣhṭhasi || 10.16 ||

English:  Please describe to me in detail Your divine powers, by which You pervade all the worlds and abide in them.

Hindi:  कृपया मुझे अपनी दैवी विभूतियों के बारे में विस्तार से बताएं, जिनसे आप संपूर्ण लोकों को व्याप्त करते हैं और उनमें स्थित रहते हैं।

 

Shloka 10.17: kathaṁ vidyām ahaṁ yogins tvāṁ sadā parichintayan | keṣhu keṣhu cha bhāveṣhu chintyo ’si bhagavan mayā || 10.17 ||

English:  O Yogin, how may I constantly meditate on You, and in what various forms may I think of You, O Blessed Lord?

Hindi:  हे योगीश्वर, मैं आपको सदैव किस प्रकार ध्यान करूँ, और आपके किस-किस रूप में मैं आपको चिंतन करूँ, हे भगवान?

 

Shloka 10.18: vistareṇātmano yogaṁ vibhūtiṁ cha janārdana | bhūyaḥ kathaya tṛiptir hi śhṛiṇvato nāsti me ’mṛitam || 10.18 ||

English:  O Janardana, please narrate to me again in detail about Your yoga and glories, for I never tire of hearing Your nectar-like words.

Hindi:  हे जनार्दन, कृपया मुझे फिर से विस्तार से अपने योग और विभूतियों के बारे में बताएं, क्योंकि आपके अमृत समान वचनों को सुनने में मुझे कभी तृप्ति नहीं होती।

 

Shloka 10.19: śhrī-bhagavān uvācha | hanta te kathayiṣhyāmi divyā hy ātma-vibhūtayaḥ | prādhānyataḥ kuru-śhreṣhṭha nāstyanto vistarasya me || 10.19 ||

English:  The Blessed Lord said: Very well, O best of the Kurus, I shall now describe to you My divine glories, but only the most prominent ones, for there is no end to My expansions.

Hindi:  भगवान ने कहा: अच्छा, हे कुरुओं में श्रेष्ठ, अब मैं तुम्हें अपनी दैवी विभूतियों के बारे में बताऊँगा, लेकिन केवल प्रमुख विभूतियों के बारे में, क्योंकि मेरी विस्तारों का कोई अंत नहीं है।

 

Shloka 10.20: ahaṁ ātmā guḍākeśha sarva-bhūtāśhaya-sthitaḥ | ahaṁ ādiśh cha madhyaṁ cha bhūtānām anta eva cha || 10.20 ||

English:  I am the Self, O Gudakesha (Arjuna), seated in the hearts of all creatures. I am the beginning, the middle, and the end of all beings.

Hindi:  मैं आत्मा हूँ, हे गुडाकेश (अर्जुन), जो सभी जीवों के हृदय में स्थित है। मैं सभी प्राणियों का आदि, मध्य, और अंत हूँ।

 

 Shloka 10.21: ādityaānām ahaṁ viṣhṇur jyotiṣhāṁ ravir aṁśhumān | marīchir marutām asmi nakṣhatrāṇām ahaṁ śhaśhī || 10.21 ||

English:  Among the Adityas, I am Vishnu; among the luminaries, I am the radiant sun. Among the Maruts, I am Marichi, and among the stars, I am the moon.

Hindi:  आदित्यों में मैं विष्णु हूँ; प्रकाशमानों में मैं उज्ज्वल सूर्य हूँ। मरुतों में मैं मरिचि हूँ, और नक्षत्रों में मैं चंद्रमा हूँ।

 

Shloka 10.22: vedānāṁ sāma-vedo ’smi devānām asmi vāsavaḥ | indriyāṇāṁ manaśh chāsmi bhūtānām asmi chetanā || 10.22 ||

English:  Among the Vedas, I am the Sama Veda; among the gods, I am Indra. Among the senses, I am the mind; and in living beings, I am consciousness.

Hindi:  वेदों में मैं सामवेद हूँ; देवताओं में मैं इंद्र हूँ। इंद्रियों में मैं मन हूँ, और सभी जीवों में मैं चेतना हूँ।

 

Shloka 10.23: rudrāṇāṁ śhaṅkaraśh chāsmi vitteśho yakṣha-rakṣhasām | vasūnāṁ pāvakaśh chāsmi meruḥ śhikhariṇām aham || 10.23 ||

English:  Among the Rudras, I am Shankara; among the Yakshas and Rakshasas, I am the Lord of Wealth (Kubera). Among the Vasus, I am Agni (fire), and among the mountains, I am Meru.

Hindi:  रुद्रों में मैं शंकर हूँ; यक्षों और राक्षसों में मैं धनपति (कुबेर) हूँ। वसुओं में मैं अग्नि हूँ, और पर्वतों में मैं मेरु हूँ।

 

Shloka 10.24: purodhasāṁ cha mukhyaṁ māṁ viddhi pārtha bṛihaspatim | senānīnām ahaṁ skandaḥ sarasām asmi sāgaraḥ || 10.24 ||

English:  Among priests, O Partha (Arjuna), know Me to be Brihaspati, the chief of priests. Among generals, I am Skanda (Kartikeya), and among bodies of water, I am the ocean.

Hindi:  हे पार्थ (अर्जुन), पुरोहितों में मुझे बृहस्पति जानो, जो पुरोहितों के प्रमुख हैं। सेनानायकों में मैं स्कंद (कार्तिकेय) हूँ, और जलाशयों में मैं सागर हूँ।

 

Shloka 10.25: mahāṛiṣhīṇāṁ bhṛigur ahaṁ girām asmyekam akṣharam | yajñānāṁ japayajño ’smi sthāvarāṇāṁ himālayaḥ || 10.25 ||

English:  Among the great sages, I am Bhrigu; among utterances, I am the single syllable Om. Among sacrifices, I am the japa-yajna (chanting of the holy names), and among immovable things, I am the Himalayas.

Hindi:  महान ऋषियों में मैं भृगु हूँ; वचनों में मैं एकाक्षर हूँ। यज्ञों में मैं जप यज्ञ हूँ, और अचल वस्तुओं में मैं हिमालय हूँ।

 

Shloka 10.26: aśhvatthaḥ sarva-vṛikṣhāṇāṁ devarṣhīṇāṁ cha nāradaḥ | gandharvāṇāṁ chitrarathaḥ siddhānāṁ kapilo muniḥ || 10.26 ||

English:  Among all trees, I am the Peepal tree (Ashvattha); among the divine sages, I am Narada; among the Gandharvas, I am Chitraratha; and among the perfected beings, I am Kapila Muni.

Hindi:  सभी वृक्षों में मैं पीपल (अश्वत्थ) हूँ; देवर्षियों में मैं नारद हूँ; गन्धर्वों में मैं चित्ररथ हूँ; और सिद्धों में मैं कपिल मुनि हूँ।

 

Shloka 10.27: uchchaiḥśhravasam aśhvānāṁ viddhi mām amṛitodbhavam | airāvataṁ gajendrāṇāṁ narāṇāṁ cha narādhipam || 10.27 ||

English:  Among horses, know Me to be Uchchaihshravas, born from the nectar of the ocean; among elephants, I am Airavata, and among humans, I am the king.

Hindi:  घोड़ों में मुझे उच्चैःश्रवा जानो, जो समुद्र मंथन के अमृत से उत्पन्न हुआ था; हाथियों में मैं ऐरावत हूँ, और मनुष्यों में मैं राजा हूँ।

 

Shloka 10.28: āyudhānām ahaṁ vajraṁ dhenūnām asmi kāmadhuk | prajanaśh chāsmi kandarpaḥ sarpāṇām asmi vāsukiḥ || 10.28 ||

English:  Among weapons, I am the thunderbolt; among cows, I am the Kamadhenu. I am Kandarpa, the god of love, among progenitors, and among serpents, I am Vasuki.

Hindi:  शस्त्रों में मैं वज्र हूँ; गायों में मैं कामधेनु हूँ। संतान उत्पन्न करने वालों में मैं कंदर्प (कामदेव) हूँ, और सर्पों में मैं वासुकि हूँ।

 

Shloka 10.29: anantaśh chāsmi nāgānāṁ varuṇo yādasām aham | pitṝīṇām aryamā chāsmi yamaḥ saṁyamatām aham || 10.29 ||

English:  I am Ananta (Sheshnaag) among nagas (celestial serpents); among aquatic beings, I am Varuna. Among the ancestors, I am Aryama, and among those who discipline, I am Yama (god of death).

Hindi:  नागों में मैं अनन्त (शेषनाग) हूँ; जलचरों में मैं वरुण हूँ। पितरों में मैं अर्यमा हूँ, और नियंत्रण करने वालों में मैं यम (मृत्यु के देवता) हूँ।

 

Shloka 10.30: prahlādaśh chāsmi daityānāṁ kālaḥ kalayatām aham | mṛigāṇāṁ cha mṛigendro ’haṁ vainateyaśh cha pakṣhiṇām || 10.30 ||

English:  Among the Daityas (demons), I am Prahlada; among measurers, I am time. Among animals, I am the lion, and among birds, I am Garuda.

Hindi:  दैत्य (राक्षसों) में मैं प्रह्लाद हूँ; गणना करने वालों में मैं काल हूँ। पशुओं में मैं सिंह हूँ, और पक्षियों में मैं गरुड़ हूँ।

 

Shloka 10.31: pavanaḥ pavatām asmi rāmaḥ śhastra-bhṛitām aham | jhaṣhāṇāṁ makaraśh chāsmi srotasām asmi jāhnavī || 10.31 ||

English:  Among purifiers, I am the wind; among wielders of weapons, I am Rama. Among fishes, I am the Makara, and among rivers, I am the Ganges.

Hindi:  शुद्ध करने वालों में मैं वायु हूँ; शस्त्रधारियों में मैं राम हूँ। मछलियों में मैं मकर हूँ, और नदियों में मैं गंगा हूँ।

 

Shloka 10.32: sargāṇām ādir antaśh cha madhyaṁ chaivāham arjuna | adhyātma-vidyā vidyānāṁ vādaḥ pravadatām aham || 10.32 ||

English:  O Arjuna, among all creations, I am the beginning, the end, and also the middle. Of all knowledge, I am the knowledge of the self, and among disputants, I am logical argument.

Hindi:  हे अर्जुन, सभी सृष्टियों में मैं आदि, अंत, और मध्य हूँ। सभी विद्याओं में मैं आध्यात्मिक ज्ञान हूँ, और विवाद करने वालों में मैं तर्क हूँ।

 

Shloka 10.33: akṣharāṇām a-kāro ’smi dvandvaḥ sāmāsikasya cha | ahamevākṣhayaḥ kālo dhātāhaṁ viśhvatomukhaḥ || 10.33 ||

English:  Among letters, I am the letter A, and among compound words, I am the dual. I am also eternal time, and I am the dispenser of results, facing every direction.

Hindi:  अक्षरों में मैं हूँ, और समास में मैं द्वंद्व हूँ। मैं अनंत काल हूँ, और सभी दिशाओं में फैलने वाला धारणकर्ता हूँ।

 

Shloka 10.34: mṛityuḥ sarva-haraśh chāham udbhavaśh cha bhaviṣhyatām | kīrtiḥ śhrīr vāk cha nārīṇāṁ smṛitir medhā dhṛitiḥ kṣhamā || 10.34 ||

English:  I am death, the all-devouring; and I am the origin of things yet to be. Among women, I am fame, prosperity, speech, memory, intelligence, steadfastness, and forgiveness.

Hindi:  मैं मृत्यु हूँ, जो सबको हरने वाला है; और मैं होने वाली वस्तुओं का उत्पत्ति स्रोत हूँ। स्त्रियों में मैं कीर्ति, श्री, वाणी, स्मृति, मेधा, धृति, और क्षमा हूँ।

 

Shloka 10.35: bṛihat-sāma tathā sāmnāṁ gāyatrī chhandasām aham | māsānāṁ mārga-śhīrṣho ’ham ṛitūnāṁ kusumākaraḥ || 10.35 ||

English:  Among the hymns of the Sama Veda, I am the Brihat-Saman; among meters, I am the Gayatri. Among months, I am Margashirsha (November-December), and among seasons, I am spring, which brings flowers.

Hindi:  सामवेद के सामों में मैं बृहद्-साम हूँ; छंदों में मैं गायत्री हूँ। महीनों में मैं मार्गशीर्ष (नवंबर-दिसंबर) हूँ, और ऋतुओं में मैं वसंत ऋतु हूँ, जो फूल लाती है।

 

 Shloka 10.36: dyūtaṁ chhalayatām asmi tejas tejasvinām aham | jayo ’smi vyavasāyo ’smi sattvaṁ sattvavatām aham || 10.36 ||

English:  I am the gambling of the deceitful; I am the splendor of the splendid. I am victory, I am effort, and I am the sattva (goodness) of the virtuous.

Hindi:  मैं धोखेबाजों का जुआ हूँ; मैं तेजस्वियों का तेज हूँ। मैं विजय हूँ, मैं प्रयास हूँ, और मैं सत्त्व हूँ, जो सत्त्वगुण से युक्त हैं।

 

Shloka 10.37: vṛiṣhṇīnāṁ vāsudevo ’smi pāṇḍavānāṁ dhanañjayaḥ | munīnām apyahaṁ vyāsaḥ kavīnām uśhanā kaviḥ || 10.37 ||

English:  Among the Vrishnis, I am Vasudeva (Krishna); among the Pandavas, I am Arjuna. Among the sages, I am Vyasa, and among the great thinkers, I am Ushana (Shukracharya).

Hindi:  वृष्णियों में मैं वासुदेव (कृष्ण) हूँ; पांडवों में मैं धनंजय (अर्जुन) हूँ। ऋषियों में मैं व्यास हूँ, और महान चिंतकों में मैं उशन (शुक्राचार्य) हूँ।

 

Shloka 10.38: daṇḍo damayatām asmi nītir asmi jigīṣhatām | maunaṁ chaivāsmi guhyānāṁ jñānaṁ jñānavatām aham || 10.38 ||

English:  Among means of suppressing lawlessness, I am punishment; among those who seek victory, I am morality. Of secrets, I am silence, and among the wise, I am wisdom.

Hindi:  अनुशासन करने के साधनों में मैं दंड हूँ; विजय चाहने वालों में मैं नीति हूँ। गुप्त बातों में मैं मौन हूँ, और ज्ञानी जनों में मैं ज्ञान हूँ।

 

Shloka 10.39: yach chāpi sarva-bhūtānāṁ bījaṁ tad aham arjuna | na tad asti vinā yat syān mayā bhūtaṁ charācharam || 10.39 ||

English:  I am the seed of all living beings, O Arjuna. There is no being—moving or non-moving—that can exist without Me.

Hindi:  हे अर्जुन, मैं सभी प्राणियों का बीज हूँ। ऐसा कोई भी चर या अचर जीव नहीं है जो मुझसे रहित हो।

 

Shloka 10.40: nānto ’sti mama divyānāṁ vibhūtīnāṁ parantapa | eṣha tūddeśhataḥ prokto vibhūter vistaro mayā || 10.40 ||

English:  There is no end to My divine manifestations, O Parantapa (Arjuna). What I have spoken to you is but a mere indication of My infinite opulences.

Hindi:  हे परंतप (अर्जुन), मेरी दैवी विभूतियों का कोई अंत नहीं है। मैंने जो कुछ तुमसे कहा है, वह मेरी अनंत विभूतियों का केवल एक संकेत मात्र है।

 

Shloka 10.41: yad yad vibhūtimat sattvaṁ śhrīmad ūrjitam eva vā | tad tad evāvagaccha tvaṁ mama tejo-’mśha-sambhavam || 10.41 ||

English:  Whatever is glorious, prosperous, or powerful in any being, know that it arises from but a fraction of My splendor.

Hindi:  जो भी विभूतिमान, श्रीयुक्त, या शक्तिशाली वस्तु है, वह मेरे तेज के एक अंश से उत्पन्न हुई है—इस प्रकार जानो।

 

Shloka 10.42: athavā bahunaitena kiṁ jñātena tavārjuna | viṣhṭabhyāham idaṁ kṛitsnam ekāṁśena sthito jagat || 10.42 ||
